Convert all bash scripts to python or some other scripting language (ruby, perl, etc.)

Presently, all scripts run by the user are bash. If we want to tap into higher level features (dbus and libparted), we need to start thinking about using a more powerful scripting language. Python has been suggested but Ruby or Perl should work just as well. This decision may depend on change requests in the other blueprints.
