TorAnt Overview

== Project Goals ==
 - Create software for resumable file transfers over Tor.
 - Create software for files sharing between groups.

== Rationale ==
There are numerous reasons to use Tor and there are numerous reasons for people to distribute files. TorAnt aims to cover the overlap between these needs. Some possible use cases for TorAnt include:

 === Groups need to share files ===
 - Undercover reporters may need to send files back to HQ. These files need to be available after the reporter disconnects.
 - Activist groups need to share documents, leaks, etc.

 === Connections are unstable ===
 - Not every country has stable internet connections.
 - Censorship is increasing so file transfers may be blocked or monitored.
 - Torrents and file transfers are being blocked by ISPs and filters - even legal file transfers.

 === Anonymity is needed when sharing files ===
 - Copyright laws make many ISPs wary of supporting services that share files. There is also increasing pressure on ISPs to monitor connections.
 - Reporters and activists do not want their communications monitored. Communications are being monitored more and more: http://www.aclu.org/national-security/nsa-unchained-infographic .
