Template Layoutes
The ability to create a layout template when you start up terminator would be really useful. This is similar in the ability to be able to save a layout but with a subtle difference. If I quite out of terminal session that window is closed as well and my layout design in gone. If the layout was templated I could just create a new terminal in the empty space. It is basically the same principle as in screen when you do a Ctrl+a Shift S. The commands will split the screen and create a space where you can create a new terminal session.
Envisaged usage would be for example having a template called LDAP debugging which when opened will create all of the space with terminals in place. This falls nicely into place with an additional feature which would be the ability to automatically create x amount of sessions to the same host without needing to authenticate multiple times. This would allow me to type a command like:
terminator --template LDAP --host ldaphost.mydomain which will automatically open up say 3 terminals in a specific layout.

Whiteboard
[SJB - the current maintainer] We have (for a while now, but probably since this BP was created) layouts that can be saved and loaded at startup time.
