restore-previous-system-configurations

It would be awesome if switchboard could save every change made to the system's settings and use the data to be able to restore system settings from previous configurations. The user would then find an entry called "Restore system settings..." in the menu where the user would be presented with a list of previous configurations and what changes the restoration of these settings would cause. This way a user could easily recover from playing around too much within the system's settings. (as a side note, many of the plugs would benefit of a "restore to defaults" button)

Great idea! Consider automatic back-ups to fall back to (a day, a week, a month, a quarter and a year old, for example). Also, a way to move the back-up to a usb in case you're going to do a clean installation. --KevinKleinman

While this is certainly an interesting proposal, it is a technical impossibility given the way Switchboard works. Each plug decides for itself how to serialize and persist settings/data, and there is no way for Switchboard to access, control, or intercept that.

I would suggest filing a similar blueprint on the elementary os launchpad page, as a means of developing a standard for "rolling back" system state. But it is definitely out of scope for Switchboard. -- aroman
