Spelling program that tracks pupils progress

Is it possible to create a spelling program that teaches the children to spell various wordlists the tests their knowledge? The program would then record the results and move them onto harder words or other wordlists once they are scoring well on those they are on.
I am putting this up as I see myself using SOAS in our school for children with Special Educational needs and one of the things we would want to do is help them with spelling. I have the spelling list, and can suggest approaches to teaching them spelling. Need programmers to come up with package
