API so that apps can register services with slingshot

An api or other way so that developers can integrate special actions or services into slingshot. For example, an email client could register a 'compose email' action. When email or compose was searched, the registered service would show up in the results. In the email example, a compose email window would pop up. The whole email client however would not open, just the compose window.
