Store active-sequence pattern with quick access buttons

Registered by emuse

Motivation
Although there are many MIDI trackers, the linux world seems to be lacking a traditional pattern-based composer in which you can predefine several sequence-selection patterns and then smoothly switch over between these patterns just by pressing a key or button.

Current SEQ24 status
SEQ24 almost has that feature already: You can currently make multiple selections by holding a specific modifier key (alt, ctl, etc..) and then the sequence selection gets active only after the previous sequences finish playing.

Possible Implementation
My feature request just goes in the direction of improving this functionality, so that should not be very difficult to implement:
I would like to see a range of say 10 buttons in the top menu, each corresponding to a previously stored active/inactive sequence pattern. And once one of these buttons is pressed, the previous setup finishes playing (that is important) and then it activates the new pattern. It's just saving the current active/inactive pattern into a structure that holds several such patterns.

Storing a pattern could be done by holding a modifier and pressing the button. And that would be a great tool for live performance. AFAIK there is no other application that can do it that way. Song mode is not a replacement for this.
