Make the debug mode useful, and make it so it is actually used!

SCB has a debug mode, but very few features actually take advantage of it.
It should be made easier to use and have different levels of debug.
There should also be debug channel messages and debug terminal output with optional debug writeout to a file.
This will be to help diagnose and discover errors.
