Using Sarf as an Arabic Morphology System

Registered by Hanen Ben Rhouma

Why not use Sarf in Sabily distro (Ubuntu customized version geared towards Muslims) as a Reference Grammar of Modern Standard Arabic which can be presented in a comprehensive token-based Data Base on the structure of Arabic. Keeping technical terminology to a minimum, it can provide a detailed yet accessible overview of Arabic in which the essentials of its phonology, morphology and syntax can be readily looked up and understood. Accompanied by extensive request processing, it will prove an invaluable practical digitised format for supporting Arabic-speaking users as well as Arabic-learning enthusiasts in a self-study way, and will also be a useful resource for scholars and professionals wishing to develop an understanding of the key features of the language.

Whiteboard

* Regarding the link (http://folk.uio.no/amundbjo/snacks/cojuge/Arabic%20Morphology%20System/), I notice that this is a java program, I think we need also C library to implement Sarf, to be usable by any app., then other language bindings can be made.

* Also I received this from Arabeyes (http://www.wataonline.net/site/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6385&forum=110).

* A related project on Sourceforge: Ayaspell (http://ayaspell.sourceforge.net/), the currently related package in Debian/Ubuntu is hunspell-ar.

*unfortunately sarf is java and no c library for it,
there is a python web application similar but smaller

the link to wataonline is now obsolete,
I'll move every thing to tarmeez wiki
