Percona Toolkit 2.1 continues with the "next generation" of tools introduced in the 2.0 series. In Percona Toolkit 2.1, the following tools will be updated and are therefore will no longer backwards compatible with 2.0 or 1.0:

Percona Toolkit 2.1 is actively development. Features may be added in each release, but all 2.1.x versions should be mutually compatible.

Percona Toolkit 2.x is the "next generation" of tools. In 2.x series, tools will be redesigned and rewritten to be simpler, smarter, and better overall.
In Percona Toolkit 2.0, the following tools were updated and are therefore no longer backwards compatible with 1.0:

* pt-table-sync
* pt-diskstats
* pt-stalk
Percona Toolkit 2.0 is no longer in development. The last new features and backwards incompatible changes were made in 2.0.3. Subsequent releases (2.0.4 and newer) are bug-fix only releases.
Percona Toolkit 1.0 was the first major series created by forking and combining most tools from Maatkit and Aspersa.
Percona Toolkit 1.0 is no longer developed, and only critical bugs are fixed or backported. Users should upgrade to the current stable release.
