How should the dock indicate multiple windows and allow for selecting them

We need a way to indicate multiple windows of an application to the user and find an intuitive way for selecting a particular window.

Mabye a little nuber next to the icon to show how many windows are open, and show the in a staked fashion on mouse over-Joshua Muresan
The formerly supressed indicators are shown now in the default Pantheon theme -- ricotz
I think Windows 7 does it very well: clicking on the dock icon would bring up a preview of all windows of that application, possibly with part of the window title below. Although, I can't say whether this would be WM-specific; something to keep in mind. - Nishant George Agrwal
