Overprint italic text into the adjacent cells

Due to the geometry of italic characters, the letter shapes can sometimes spill over into the next cell (e.g. a capital italic W will spill at the top right). It would be good to ensure they overprint the background of adjacent cells properly so they don't appear clipped.
