Toast Notifications in Horizon
Existing OpenStack user messages / popups are just an error / success feedback to the user that show up post a user's action, and are not active live feeds – also called toasts - of occurrence of events that are extremely vital in monitoring and managing a massive cloud environment, but missing in today’s OpenStack solution. Toasts ideally surface an event occurrence to the user without interfering with his current task at hand, and then auto-disappear after a short while. They may also be stored somewhere for users to access them at a later time.
One way to address this gap is to extend existing error / success popups to address the missing 'toast characteristics'; the other may be draft a new concept around toast notifications.
This blueprint aims to propose a UX design approach on how we can surface toast notifications to OpenStack users.
Toasts can be supported on both web and mobile interfaces.
[Note: This concept was initially expressed in another OpenStack blueprint – "Alarm Management wireframes for Horizon"]
