IMHO the current period code generation is not practical for all countries and keyboards
entering 01/2010 requires to use SHIFT+7 to create the /
in Austria (and Germany ?) period codes and names and would be of format YYYYMM
as this is a central issue of usability and readability I suggest to allow to select the format of period code during the generation of the periods.

The format YYYYMM allows also to sort periods
