There is a module for this: account_journal_period. We can write account.move which are not in the period, it's totally legal and required. (suppose you get a supplier invoice dated in may, but you get in in april and you already have closed the mayperiod).

Note Alexis dL : are you talking about the module "account_date_check" (in addons) ? I don't see any module named "account_journal_period".
