Open Source CAD

Registered by Alex Krolick

In the interest of making the "source" of the 3D-printable STL files open to anyone, I started modeling the enclosure in FreeCAD, which seems to be the most complete opensource 3D CAP application. However, there's a bit of a learning curve and it's not as feature-complete as SolidWorks, so this is going to end up being an as-time-allows project.

Whiteboard

1. Revisions 3+ of the "hardware" branch will contain FreeCAD files as well as SolidWorks part drawings and STL files.

2. There are a few FreeCAD files in there now, but they aren't complete; instead we've decided to explore using OpenSCAD, a geometric-primitive-based modeling program popular amongst 3-D printing hobbyists. It's definitely got a learning curve, but this allows us to make the design as accessible as possible to the widest range of people.
