Specify Number of Cores Per Socket on Instance

Registered by Antony Messerli

This blueprint has been superseded. See the newer blueprint "Support the vcpu-topology image metadata options inside XenAPI" for updated plans.

Typically an instance is assigned a single core per socket ( instance with 4 vcpus would have 4 sockets ). In some cases of licensed images like Microsoft SQL, the licensing is done by socket. In this case it's advantageous to stack as many cores as possible on a socket. XenServer 6.2 provides this functionality for free now (used to be part of the licensed version): https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX126524

The proposal is to add an image property that specifies cores_per_socket on an image which would allow you to override the default of one core per socket and specify the number you want on the instance.
