Secure access to datastore

We should attempt to make sure connections to the datastore are encrypted and authenticated. We're designing a platform that's meant to run VM's by potentially malicious users, and even a minor network misconfiguration might give VM's network access to the datastore, so making sure they cannot snoop or poison it is essential.
