Integrating Openvswitch monitoring with Openstack.

Registered by Sridhar

The goal of this work is to provide unified monitoring of openflow-based virtual switches (as provided by ovsdbmonitor) from openstack dashboard – Horizon. That is, in the Horizon, we add a new option called virtual switches, under manage networks (for administrator), which will display all the necessary information of openflow switches – via a backend program such as ovsdbmonitor. Horizon is the canonical implementation of OpenStack’s Dashboard, which provides a web based user interface to OpenStack services including Nova, Swift, Keystone, Neutron etc. Whereas, an example tool that realize the OVS monitoring is the ovsdbmonitor. Ovsdbmonitor is a GUI tool for monitoring and troubleshooting Open vSwitch. It presents GUI tables that graphically represent an Open vSwitch kernel flow table and Open vSwitch database contents.
It may prove beneficial for the ‘administrator’ to monitor the openflow-based virtual switches. Hence, (possibly) under the manage-networks tab, if virtual-switches option is also added, then it would be very useful for the administrator.
