http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-3143/ provides http://pypi.python.org/pypi/python-daemon/ as a proposed addition to the standard Python library. This library gives developers a standard way of handling daemonisation on UN*X systems. NAV all ready has its own solutions for this problem, but considering switching might be worth it in the long run.
