Add an autodiscovery wizard to NAV

Registered by Vidar Faltinsen

It would be nice if NAV's seed DB tool could be complemented with an autodiscovery tool. The user would provide the snmp communities and the prefixes to look for new devices. The autodiscover process will produce a list of new devices in bulk import format. Alternatively can this be inserted directly into the database?

Whiteboard

Is it possible to agregate to this feature the possibility to automatically add a snmp managed device when it is conected to a NAV's mapped device?

E.g.:

I want to deploy a new switch L2 linked to a router that is already mapped in NAV. My work in the switch's configuration is only set an IP, Default Route, snmp credentials, snmp syslocation with latitude / longitude coordinates and an LLDP or CDP protocol. With that information, NAV will be capable to automaticly map that device into your database and launch a new event called NEW DEVICE (for example) enabling user's to attach an action to this event. This action can be a shell script containing all of the start configurations needed by the device to work properly in the network.
