Ability to print cards with answers on reverse of printout

Registered by ChrisM

It would be nice to create your own cards in the form of a printout. This mean you don't need a computer all of the time to learn whatever. The answers could be printed on the reverse of the printout if a duple printer is available or underneath the question.

The best approach here would be to export your cards to a text file, and then print them in a Word processor in the format of your choice.

I don't think it's the task of Mnemosyne itself to provide this functionality.

And what about if the cards include pictures??? People do do more than
just add text.

True. In any case, this has very low priority for me, also because of the fact that if you review your cards outside of Mnemosyne, the scheduling algorithm has no way of knowing how you performed. Still, somebody else could implement this as a plugin, though.

I think since there is so many electronic devices that make you view digital content, that to be able to print the cards is not that usefull anymore and you may export the cards as .xml you can handle the cards however you want.

I agree and disagree. It is true that many people have portable electronic devices that can handle this, but some don't. There are also times (classroom teaching for example) when it would be nice to have printed cards.

It is true that probably the best way is to export to a text file. However, the process to create decent looking cards from that export is a bit complicated. If you don't want to spend hours and hours touching up more complicated cards, you have to be pretty savvy with a good word processor to do it, I think.

For example: if there are line breaks (returns) in the text (a single word followed by a sample sentence), the breaks are exported as HTML <br> code. You have to strip out the HTML code, create uniform sized cards in a table, etc, etc. This takes a multi-step process and some know-how.

I believe someone, maybe not Mnemosyne, should at least give accurate instructions and maybe some downloadable documents to facilitate this for the few that need it. Of course it would be nicer to have a click-one-button-solution, but that doesn't seem like a primary goal at this time.
