A function that shows a hint to the answer

Registered by javasox

A function that would allow you to show a hint of the answer would be useful in two ways. First, it will be easier to asses a score to the card one wants to remember. That is: the more hints required to answer the question the lower the score. Second, it will be easier to learn. Without any hint, it is an agony to try to recall the answer, which may hinder one's motivation when trying to learn many cards. One way to implement this would be to allow active links in html fanshion, so that when the user clicks "hint 1" it opens a window with the description of the hint. This window may contain a "hint 2" link in turn, which links to an even deeper hint. Just enabling links would be enough for users to tinker a way to make hints and other interesting stuff.

When I first started using mnemosyne a little while back I wanted something like this, but now I'm wondering whether this would just encourage bad flashcard formulation? Maybe the answer is in more strict application of SuperMemo's 20 rules? I'm not sure.

Another suggestion for the hint behavior. If the field is all text, like when trying to do verbatim text memorization, having a hint button that presented the first letter of all the words, or maybe underscores indicating the number of letters in each word would be helpful.
