Decouple the preferences from the dialogs

The UI logic needs to be separated from the UI itself so the dialog code becomes just a thin layer gluing the UI to the logic controller. This allows us to test the UI logic easily. (It also must happen if we're ever going to port to Android, iOS or FirefoxOS.)
