Addition to comment #3:

After rebuilding midori with full debugging enabled it seems somewhat less sensitive to this CPU consumption bug. Namely:

1. Creating empty tabs and then just closing a tab has no effect

However, Creating two tabs and then selecting the 1st tab still works.

Other combinations produce the effect, but I haven't seen a pattern yet.
