Test for user to verify scan speed setting
Ideally you should accompany the scan speed setting with a user test module for the user to test that he/she can cope well with the selected speed before applying it in practical use.

A scan speed test could be designed as follows:
After selecting a new faster scan speed, the user is presented an extra confirmation dialog, requiring the user to confirm the new speed setting by selecting item 3 in a row of 4 items twice in succession without selection errors, by using the scanning mechanism (with a scanning focus cursor circling around the four items).

If the user makes a selection error, the confirmation is requested a second time.
If another selection error is made, the speed is lowered one step, and a new confirmation as described is required etc.
