Way to back out of a sub-array in scanning
Combine the following two features:
1: After 2 rounds of automatic scanning on any level, stop and reset the scan to the starting position. Restart scanning on a next switch press.
2: In all sub-level scanning arrays - i.e. in a selected row in the keyboard - insert an "empty"/non-visible scan position at the end of the sub-array. If the user selects at the empty position (when the scanning cursor has disappeared after the end of the row and before it re-appears at the beginning of it) then the scanning restarts on the top level.
This combines two commonly used strategies without any of them intruding on the other, and allows the user to repair a selection mistake relatively quickly. It also removes the stress of automatic scanning (and unnecessary power consumtion) during pauses.
