Consistent formatting of source code

Currently there are problems with inconsistent code style and indentation conventions. The indentation is currently a mix of tabs and spaces, and there are different Vala coding styles that are used. This can make the source code and resulting diffs on the code difficult to follow. One solution is to use a code "beautifier" can process source files and fix various formatting and stylistic issues.
