There is code in nova to automate the attachment of a cinder volume to an instance, where the API to attach is sent to nova and nova maps the instance ID to a hypervisor and resends an appropriate attach request to cinder.
We should implement something similar for manila within nova, so tenants can use the instance ID rather than the IP address.
