Design and build a network API

The general idea of the Lucade Studios project is to come up with modular components that can be combined and reused to build several games. One of the components we need is a network subsystem. The network subsystem has the following goals:
1. It should be easily extensible
2. It should be abstracted to work with any backend API (e.g. SDL_net, ASIO etc.)
3. It should be easy to use
