ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) abstracts platform hardware and firmware, helping to make operating systems portable. For over 15 years, this abstraction layer has allowed operating systems and hardware platforms to evolve independently.

The 5th major revision of the ACPI spec was published December, 2011. This presentation will summarize the changes included in 5.0, and the state of Linux support for those changes.

Len Brown is a Principal Engineer at Intel’s Open Source Technology Center. He focuses on power management, and has maintained the Linux Kernel ACPI sub-system since 2003.
