Simplify the upgrade process
The upgrade process is still difficult in Linux but doesn't need to be. By default new installations should already divide the disk in 3 partitions (system, home and swap), instead of the current 2 (system and swap). If the installation is done this way, there could be a much easier automatic upgrade. So, in Mint 9 change the default installation for this way and in Mint 10 you could offer an easy/improved way of upgrading.
The upgrade could simply clean all the system partition and install a new version, or, could besides the new version check the programs installed and reinstall them from the repositories.
In any case if you decide to do this or not, you should really change the default install for 3 partitions, as newbies like me probably always do the same mistake of just creating 2 partitions and making future new installations/
