A system tray icon for the Linux Mint GNOME menu

Registered by Daniel Ming-Yi Sim

The radical shift from GNOME 2 to GNOME 3 in Mint 11 will most likely involve the loss of the Mint GNOME menu, which is one of the signature features of previous versions of Mint. A system tray/notification area icon for the menu might be a rather crude but effective way to retain it without heavily modifying GNOME 3 itself, and simultaneously ease the shift for users whom are upgrading from Mint 10. Would it be possible to implement this feature?
