LMDE Rolling applications repository

Registered by Martijn

Currently Linux Mint Debian Edition is not a true rolling distribution. People like the stability of Debian but at the same time want to have regular updates for many applications. The current system of Update Packs generally results in fewer updates than even the 6-month release schedule of Ubuntu.

I propose to add a mid-way solution: adding a "rolling applications repository" that would contain applications that have a proven track record concerning stability and low to no impact on other applications or the core system.

The applications in such a repository would be updated by maintainers with changes from upstream sources like the Libre Office team itself. The maintainers would not check the upstream releases, merely update the repository.

Why a separate repository? So people could opt-in to the repository. This is necessary since not checking the releases could, potentially cause stability issues despite an upstream team's reputation.

I have contacted Clem about this already and added this idea here to document it. I am offering my time in working out the details for this plan, setting up the repository and maintaining it as well as updating the packages.
