Make it easier to install printer drivers that aren't automatically installed

Registered by rethr

When I first tried out Linux, I could do most of my homework on it (except powerpoints) but I had to save the work I did as a pdf, move it to my dad's computer and then use the printer from there (which I had already set up to run from the home network). To be able to do homework efficiently I had to use windows.
The printer is a Brother MFC-665CW - a model that's not found in the united states.
On Brother's website, I navigated to this page:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/ca/en/model_top/colormfc/mfc665cw_us_as.html?reg=us&c=ca&lang=en&prod=mfc665cw_us_as
Then I clicked linux which brings up this page:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/index.html

To this day I still have no idea what to install: cups of lpr. I don't even know what they are. So when I was trying to get the printer to work I tried to follow the instructions and installed them both from the command line. At the time I was completely unfarmilar with the unix command line but nevertheless after working on it for a solid three days I was able to get the printer working. I could print from any application after that.

The problem is, imagine all the people who try out Linux and either can't, or give up on figuring out how to set up their printer. Wouldn't that turn them off? Maybe there could be SOME computer-noob friendly documentation on setting up printer drivers that aren't automatically installed by Mint?

Sorry for the bad writing.
