Improve automated tests for DS5

Stub blueprint to follow up on later. Gatord is open source, so we ought to be able to figure out how to communicate with it, and create a test that does more than just check that the module is loaded. There is a risk that when gatord changes, the protocol may change, but that simply means the test may need updating every so often.
