File manager: Operations between directories
Regardless of interface implementation, there are too few killer features to be suggested. But just several new functions may cardinally change workflow for this tool.
Most modern file managers allow to copy/move files between directories
using either drag & drop by mouse or via clippoard. Operations on two
directory, picked through handlers. Most typical example of
implementation — file manager (also called directory editor) with
following operations, where first directory is the current view and
second is one of following:
* Last directory view — directory, opened in previous directory editor
from window stack, which represents order of window switching. This
selector allowes same workflow as in twin-panel file managers, very
popular by advanced users (not about dolphin, konqueror and spacefm,
regardless of their multi-pane nature).
* Previous N directory views — same as previous, but applied to
directory sets.
* “Previous directory views ...” invoking list view.
Example sources of directory lists:
* Directory views with option to pick directories from their selections.
* Bookmarks, stacks and other user-defined lists
* File tree
Dolphin and konqueror provide “Copy to ...” and “Move to ...” file
actions (usually disabled by default), which allow to select destination
from file tree (known for KDE versions 3 and 4).
