Taxonomy for footprints library

The PCB footprint library is still somewhat messy. The current guidelines define the naming conventions and drawing specifications regarding line lengths, fonts etc. but there is no guidance for taxonomy. Common footprints (e.g 0805 SMD resistor/capacitor) are spread throughout the library, partly under "common-ish" categories, partly under manufacturer type. Suggested taxonomy starts with 2 categories - "common" and "manufacturer specific", then trees down from there (e.g "through hole" and "SMD", then "Resistor/capacitor", "DIP", "Connectors" and so on)
