PcbNew - MOVE is subject to unhelpful jumps at start

PcbNew, F9 mode:
I have a large footprint that I wish to re-position in precise aligment with other parts.
The instant I press <M>, the 'handle position' leaps over to (0, 0) on the footprint.
Can the handle position (on the footprint) remain where I 'grab' it please? That is, when I hit <M>, I have chosen a particular position on the footprint.
Maybe I am at the lower right of the footprint for example. I hit <M>, and - instantly - the whole display *jumps* to put the cursor at (0,0) WRT the footprint definition. Ideally, this should not occur. It means it is tricky to see the relation in position between the footprint lower right (where I tried to grab it) and the other part to which I need to align.
