For fast duplication of repetitive items

For repetitive tasks, I often find it faster to "Export to file", edit the file, then import. Could an "edit as text"/"edit as footprint" checkbox be added to the Footprint Editor?
Also, an "Align" function would be useful: align centres, tops, bottoms for selected items (allow CTRL multi-select for this feature).
