eeschema=auto-number symbols; PcbNew=RMB auto-number selected pads

Eeschema: New option in "Preferences|Schematic Editor options" --> "Automatically annotate newly added symbols"
- Saves user having to use the "Annotate" button.
Also: When creating a symbol with many pins, I might use "Copy" (this option sometimes does not appear...). The copied pins now need manually re-numbering. See the suggestion below for Pcbnew for a way to speed this up.

Pcbnew: Example - In "F11 mode", use CTRL-N array to create copies of pads.
- Right Mouse Button (RMB) to re-number selection (row major or column major, like Eeschema) and dialog to enter first number.
*Note* CTRL-N Already has a similar feature, but it does not seem to work as expected. Eg, pads 1..20 horizontal, create anothe row gives pad numbers (22,23,24, 21,25,27, ...) wheras I'd expect (21,22,23, 24,25,26, ...)
