Suggestions for aligning groups of symbols (eeschema) or footprints etc (pcbnew)
1. Enhance the "SPACEBAR / Zero co-ordinates" option. The (existing) "spacebar" shortcut is useful when you want to establish an X, Y datum in one step. Sometimes though, it is useful to choose the X co-ordinate of one item, then the Y co-ordinate of another item.
E.g. I want to align something to item #1 vertically, but to item #2 horizontally.
2. "Align Items" - Select one item, then CTRL-click multiple other items. Now a dialog can be chosen: "Align Items". Two sets of radio buttons are displayed to the user.
--> Horizontal (Left, Right, centre)
Vertical (Left, Right, centre)
Now all CTRL-click items can, for instance, can be aligned vertically such that they share a common central Y co-ordinate. The Y value used is that of the first item selected.
3. Guide bars. In some graphics applications, one can drag vertical "guide bars" from the left/right axis (and then R.M.B. to choose colour, exact position). Same applies to horizontal guide bars. These "guide bars" are design-time only: They do not exist in any print-out etc.
