Take advantage of a webgl context, if the browser supports it

Instead of using the 2d HTML5 specification for combining DisplayObject layers, use an OpenGL enabled shader, and "draw" the 2d graphic layer into a texture2D sampler buffer. In time, this can provide hooks for flash engines to inject their own shaders and vertex/texture buffers.
