Zoom to View Whole Layer

Registered by Halley

Similar to the Zoom to Selection, Zoom to Drawing, and Zoom to Page, it would be convenient in several drawings for a Zoom to Layer button or command. For example, when making a drawing that consists of a set of icons, each icon is often its own layer with many shapes. Being able to zoom freely to each layer's extents would make it easy to review the whole set. If you feel this doesn't deserve a whole button on the toolbar, add it just to the context menu when right-clicking a layer name in the Layers dialog.

Whiteboard

2016-10-01 VictorWestmann : I might be wrong but I strongly believe we have something similar inside Inkscape. You just need to select your layer > Ctrl + A (to select all objects in this very same layer) + 3 (will zoom into the selection of objects you got from the layer you selected).
It's not a single button but I believe it does what you need. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

2016-11-14 Danielanywhere: I have verified and agree. It is possible to zoom to layer content using Zoom to Selection on Select All with any current layer.

2016-11-16 halley: I already use this workaround of selecting all in the layer and zooming to the layer. It's cumbersome, and it requires that I disrupt the selection I have already prepared. When working with drawings that contain thousands of elements, the selection of several elements in close proximity often requires zooming in and out several times. View commands and Selection commands shouldn't depend on each other.
