UI-Ribbon GUI

Registered by Daniel Hendrycks

Inkscape should revamp itself with Ribbon GUI. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribbon_(computing)
This would be is a fast and pretty way to edit and create vector images. This would take some time though so this might have to get it's own milestone release.

Whiteboard

2009-11-19, Prokoudine. I don't really see how this will suddenly improve things for Inkscape. RibbonUI *might* work for office apps, but for design apps where users want as little UI elements around as possible this is a no-go. P.S. However, if you provide mockups and explain your POV in details, which is exactly what blueprints are for, there will be more chances to take your statement seriously.

2009-11-19 We will have to see if Visio pulls it of, that is a vector image creator and it will get ribbonized. Time will tell.

2009-11-21 Forget the mock-up. Just improve the UI and GUI.

2011-JAN-10 Pajarico: Please use your names when adding a comment. It makes understanding the proposal much easier. Concerning the Ribbon UI, there are some legal problems surrounding it. Implementing a similar idea could get us in trouble. And lastly, comments like "Forget the mock-up. Just improve the UI and GUI." doesn't help the developers a little since those are far too ambiguous. Regards.

2016-10-01 VictorWestmann: I don't see why Inkscape should get Ribbon. The most popular softwares used in design are from different vendors with cleaner UI and better UX. I believe Ribbon adds complexity (and tabs) where there could be other elements used to make things more accessible and easier to use.
