Lock X- or Y-Axis selectively to precisely position selected element in one direction only
I want to move a box left or right. The positioning with the arrows or by entering the coordinates directly is either not feasible or laborious. It would be easier to make X and Y clickable.
If X is clicked, X-axis coordinates are maintained whatever movement in the Y-direction happens. Unlock via another click.

[jazzynico, 2014-04-20] - Benjamin, did you try the Ctrl key? When moving an object, it constraints the object to the horizontal or vertical axis. It's already very easy to use and it lowers (if not removes) the need for a new axis-lock feature. Could you please confirm the existing tool fits the needs?
[bwe, 2014-04-20] - Nico, Ctrl works in X11 environment. However, I find the behaviour in the area where the object resides initially irritating, especially when you want to make a small precision alignment. Splitting the locking explicitly up into X OR Y would be different than Ctrl which does it both (which creates another problem).
[Victor Westmann on 2018-06-07] +1 for this. We could get inspired in the Blender application where if you use the keyboard the commands G (for Grab) lock one of the axis (X, Y, or Z). We could benefit from this feature and use them not only on shapes but with nodes as well.
