Freehand drawing tool like Xara

I really like the freehand drawing tool I was using in a very old Windows program. Sorry, I forgot it's name and it is no longer available for current Windows versions. It allowed you to draw curves by setting single points. I know something like that is in Inkscape already, but it is different. For example if you draw a close curve by setting three points the generated curve is nearly a perfect circle. I guess that similar alpha Bezier curves are being used as described in potrace. Often I like the curves more than those generated by Inkscape.
