Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool

Designing SVG fonts using styles

Registered by Alexandre Prokoudine on 2009-03-19

SVG Fonts as such are not very interesting until Inkscape provides some unique feature.

Here is an idea. You create a font from template by choosing a definition like, e.g. "venedian antiqua". Inkscape will create a templatish looking typeface with all specific features of a venedian antiqua type for further tweaking and personalization. All features will have a connection point at which hey join, so that at any time you can pick a different style for, say, serifs, or italize the typeface, and this change will be automatically applied to all glyphs. This will make font production magnitudes faster (easier to create style variations of same typeface) and make Inkscape the design tool of choice, while leaving the production stage to FontForge or Fontlab.
