Krzysztof Kosiński 2008-03-25: You should see the "New" menu item in the "File" menu. It creates the new document from a specified template. This is much more powerful than what you propose, because the new document can contain arbitrary data. There is also a GSoC project to implement a New from Template menu, which would make this feature less obscure.
