Store and read lens parameters from database
lensfun is a database and library that allows applications to access and save lens correction settings: http://
lensfun was in part designed for Hugin as a replacement for the existing .ini lens saving system, it is mature and has been adopted by ufraw and rawstudio, it is about time that Hugin started using it.
A related project is the lens-submit tool in Panotools::Script. The idea of this is to collect details of successful Hugin projects and EXIF data via online submission, and use this to eventually automate the assembly of the lens database. This functionality could be added to Hugin as a "Good alignment! submit this lens data online?" option in the Hugin GUI, the student would need to write a tool to extract useful lens database information from these online submissions.
